Terms and Conditions

By volunteering with Friends for Berrien Springs, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • Fair Week begins on Sunday, August 16, 2026 and ends on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
  • Your Organization receives a donation of $14.00 for every hour you participate.
  • Please consider carefully your well-being before you commit to work. The Korn Dog booth is a very fast-paced, busy booth. Working at the booth requires mobility and stamina. Keep in mind you are basically standing for your entire shift on concrete floors. You are expected to be able to handle money and return change with confidence and accuracy.
  • A Friends for Berrien Springs Member (Green Shirt) will assign your work duties for your shift. Keep in mind, it may be sticking dogs, making batter, frying, working the front counter or whatever needs to be done at the time.
  • In order to facilitate a smooth transition for shift changes, we ask that you arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before your shift begins. Please wait in the Korn Dog break area (under the canopy) until a Friends Member (Green Shirt) coordinates your assignment.
  • The last shift is scheduled "Until Closing". Closing means when the booth is cleaned and shut down. The fair closes at 11:00. The time for "Closing" usually ranges somewhere between 11:30 and 12:00. Please do not sign up for this shift if you are not willing/able to stay. This time is critical because it prepares the booth for the next day and everyone is tired. Please no split shifts, one shift is to be worked by one person. We strongly discourage double shifts.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older to work alone in the booth. Individuals who are 14–17 years old may work in the booth only if they are accompanied by and working the same shift as a parent, legal guardian, or organization‑approved responsible adult. Individuals who are 14 or 15 years old are limited to working only the first two scheduled shifts. No one under the age of 14 is permitted in the booth at any time.
  • We suggest you do not wear crocs or shorts due to hot grease concerns. Open toed shoes including sandals are not allowed to be worn in the booth at any time. No bare midriffs or sleeveless shirts or blouses. Wear clothes appropriate for the weather and working with the public, while realizing they may get splattered with batter and/or grease. Collar length hair must be restrained. (Hair nets, pony-tails, braids, etc.) Hair cannot touch your collar. HATS OR HAIRNETS MUST BE WORN IN THE BOOTH. Please feel free to bring your favorite one from home.
  • If Friends for Berrien Springs (Green Shirt) sends you home due to lack of work, we will pay your Organization for the hours you worked. If you leave early (including before "Closing") or leave your shift for any reason, you will forfeit the hours that you worked for that shift.
  • Eating and drinking are only allowed outside the booth. You are welcome to a Korn Dog and a drink during your shift. A Friends for Berrien Springs Member (Green Shirt) will make every effort to relieve you for a 10-15 minute break during your shift. Please do not just leave the booth as there is a system to relieve for breaks.
  • If you do not have a Berrien County Youth Fair Pass issued for any reason and need a pass to work your shift, Day Passes are available from your Contact Person for your Organization. You are responsible for that Day Pass. Neither Friends for Berrien Springs nor your "Contact Person" can replace lost or misplaced passes.
  • If you cannot work your scheduled shift, please call your Contact Person, so that a substitute can be found and arrangements made for you to transfer that Day Pass to your substitute volunteer. Otherwise your group loses that shift permanently.

On behalf of all of us at Friends for Berrien Springs, Thank you in advance for volunteering your time and talents at the Korn Dog Booth and ultimately to your Organization. We appreciate your hard work and willingness to participate.
